Reputation Shield is a versatile and extremely useful software for anyone looking to improve and maintain their business’s online reputation. There are multiple factors which affect your overall online standing, and Reputation Shield thoroughly examines each factor from several different angles. This results in a drastically improved online reputation for your business, and it’s easy to uphold your status through Reputation Shield’s features. We’ve provided a walkthrough of the product so that you can see exactly what it does and the impact it has on your business. For this walkthrough, we will be using the example of Olive Garden’s Reputation Shield account.

Complete Reputation Shield Walk-Through

Reputation Shield OverView w verification PopUp   When you first open up Reputation Shield, you’ll see a window inviting you to enhance your monitoring service with additional information. In this case, Olive Garden already has their business name, address, phone number, website, keywords, competitors, and common business names listed. You can see that there are options to edit this information if any of it is incorrect, missing, or outdated. Improving these pieces of information will greatly improve your online listings, and Reputation Shield allows you to have all this information in the same convenient and easy-to-access location. After closing this window, you’ll see a small Welcome message reminding you to explore all the tabs to see the different aspects of your online reputation. Let’s start with the Overview tab.

Reputation Shield Overview

Reputation Shield OverView At the top of this page, you’ll see a box titled Listings, with a percentage of your listing score. This is basically like a letter grade—the higher the percentage, the better your overall online listings. Reputation Shield automatically searches for your business across many different search engines, review sites, directories, and social sites. Reputation Shield then reports the number of times your listing was found—with accurate information, possible errors, or not found at all. You can explore this in greater detail by examining the icons below this percentage. Clicking on any of these icons, the Details option in the bottom right corner, or the Listings tab will allow you to see specifics on your online listings. Below this, you will see separate windows for Reviews, Mentions, and Competition. Reviews contains a chart that shows the compared percentage of positive, neutral, negative, and unspecified reviews given about your business. Mentions refers to the events when your business has been mentioned by someone on a social media outlet. Competition shows you the amount of times that your business turns up in local searches as compared with your competitors. You can learn much more about any of these windows by clicking on their specified tabs at the top of the page. Let’s start with Listings.

Reputation Shield – Listings

Reputation Shield-Listings Whenever your business’s name and contact information is brought up on a  listing site, Reputation Shield will find that listing and show you whether or not the information is accurate. It also finds sites where your listing does not appear, so that you’re aware of this and have the option to make your information available on those sites. These functions form the basic outline of the Listings feature. At the top of the Listings page, you’ll see a window inviting you to supercharge your listings with Listing Distribution. Like Reputation Shield, Listing Distribution is a product we offer to further enhance your online business experience by focusing specifically on your online listings. Below this window and to the right, you will see a box that shows your correct listing information, and there is an editing option in the event that you need to update or correct any information. Below this, you’ll see several large windows showing your listings across various search engines, review sites, directories, and social sites. There are certain icons designated to show which of these listings are correct, those which contain possible errors, and those sites where your listing was not found at all. For an idea of what that looks like, let’s look at the inaccurate listing for Yahoo! Local; identified by the yellow exclamation point. You can see that the questionable information is in red. Here, the name of the restaurant is not technically incorrect, but it’s inconsistent with the other online listings. The phone number is incorrect as well. Clicking on the “edit information” option will direct you to the site containing the incorrect information, so that you can change it and improve your listings. Let’s look at an example of what it looks like when your listing is not found at all. In Olive Garden’s case, there was no listing found for OpenTable. In this event, you can either look through possible matches to create a listing, enter in the url of your listing if you do have one, or create a listing.

Reputation Shield – Listings – Other Citations ReputationShield-Listings-OtherCitations

Going back towards the top of the Listings page, you’ll see a tab marked Other Citations. Clicking on this page allows you to see the number of times your business name and another piece of information, such as phone number or location, was mentioned. These citations are listed in order from most recent to oldest. This feature allows you to keep track of how many times your business has been mentioned on other sites, as well as how often this happens.

Reputation Shield – Listings – Statistics

ReputationShield-Listings-Statistics Looking towards the top of the page again, you’ll see another tab for Statistics. Clicking on this will allow you to see two graphs containing information about your online presence—one for your listings and one for citations. You can change either graph to show your progress over either a month’s worth of time, or a week’s. These graphs can be very handy in showing how Reputation Shield improves your overall online presence over a designated period of time.

  The last page under the Listings tab, marked by a Settings symbol, allows you to include or exclude any sites containing your listings, depending on whether they are relevant to your business. To use Olive Garden’s example, you can see that sites such as and are not checked, because they are irrelevant to Olive Garden’s online growth. On the other hand, you can also add any sites which you deem appropriate for your business’s growth and online presence.

Reputation Shield – Reviews

Reputation Shield - Reviews - Manage Reviews Moving on from Listings, we can now click on the Reviews tab at the top of the page. The first tab you will be brought to is the Manage Reviews tab. On this page, you can see an overall average rating, as well as the details of your starred ratings given by customers—meaning the amount of times you were given a starred review, ranging from 5 stars to 1 star. You can see that in Olive Garden’s case, there was one occasion when a review was given, but it didn’t include a specified rating in terms of stars. Also on this page are two drop down menus. The first, Sources, allows you to filter the reviews so that you can see all at once, or just look at reviews from one specific site. The second drop down menu, Reviews, lets you find specific reviews based on their star count. In this example, Olive Garden received one review with no rating, so we can click directly on the No Rating option from the drop down menu and automatically find that one review. You can also see that each review has an option to reply, which is incredibly useful in increasing the quality of your service and reputation. Essentially, the Reviews feature allows you to see any and all reviews posted about your business; all in one conveniently located place. You can also reply directly to any review straight from the Reputation Shield program. Towards the top right of this page, you will see a chart displaying the distribution of your reviews across different sites. This is helpful in determining where the majority of reviews come from, so that you can know which sites to be monitoring closely. Combining this feature with the drop down menu that allows you to filter which specific reviews are given on each site, you can easily figure out which sites to send your customers to when requesting a review. Below this chart is a box that shows the trending keywords in your reviews. These are words which most frequently show up in your reviews, and allow you to quickly see what customers are saying about you. Clicking on any of these keywords will allow you to see which reviews contain those keywords

Reputation Shield – Generate Reviews

Reputation Shield - Reviews - Generate Reviews The Generate Reviews tab is an extremely convenient feature. Many businesses struggle with getting reviews in the first place. With Reputation Shield’s built-in review request, you don’t need to do anything but copy the link and/or example email into your clipboard and send it to your customers. Reputation Shield alerts you when someone has left a review by using the link you sent to them.

Reputation Shield – Mentions

Reputation Shield - Mentions - Monitor Let’s move on to the Mentions tab. This feature is pretty simple—it allows you to see what people are saying about you on various social networking sites. It’s extremely important to know what people are saying about you in order to keep up a good reputation. This is different from looking at your reviews because many times, people would rather tweet or post about their experience with your business than leave a review. In the Monitor Mentions tab, you can choose to look at your mentions from sources such as Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and others. You might see a window at the top of this page informing you that no mentions have been left because you haven’t entered any relevant keywords into the system. Relevant keywords allow you to search for posts where those words have been mentioned, so that all the other posts are filtered out. You can enter keywords and common names in the Settings tab, and you can search for specific mentions in the Search Mentions tab.

Reputation Shield – Social

Reputation Shield - Social The Social tab handles all your social media account information. Let’s begin with the first page in this category: Monitor Social Activity. This page allows you to see when customers have direct interaction with your business, such as posting on your Facebook page or tagging your business in a tweet. You can filter the activity using the window on the left hand side, in the event that you only want to look at interactions on one specific site, such as your Facebook page. You can also filter the posts by date, if you’re looking for posts from a specific time frame.

The Statistics page is an interesting feature that allows you to see your historical growth in the realm of social media. It also compares your progress on social media to others within your industry. In Olive Garden’s case, we can see that they have well over 2 million more likes on Facebook than the average for their competitors. We can also see the progress they have made, and change the graph from a weekly to a daily basis, depending on which is more convenient for the circumstance. The Set Up Social Accounts tab is relatively self-explanatory: it allows you to set up those social media accounts which have not already been set up for your company, as well as configure those which have been set up with Reputation Shield’s software.

Reputation Shield – Competition

Reputation Shield - Competition Now, let’s look at the Competition tab. This feature allows you to see how your overall online performance compares with that of your competitors’. First, let’s investigate the first window, entitled Search Engine Share of Voice. Using Olive Garden’s example, we can see that there are two pie charts—labeled “Restaurant” and “Italian Restaurant”—depicting Olive Garden’s performance compared with Carrabba’s performance. These two charts represent how often Olive Garden comes up in search results—compared with their competitor, Carrabba’s—when people type in relevant keywords, which in this case are Restaurant and Italian Restaurant. When using Reputation Shield’s services to the fullest extent, you can edit the keywords, or service categories, to better understand what people are searching for when they find your results. You can also edit the list of competitors to get more accurate results and see who your top competition is. Below this window is a box entitled Social Audience. You can see a graph that shows Olive Garden’s growth over 30 days across their various social media sites—in this case, their sites are Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare. The Overview tab allows you to see your combined growth in terms of numbers of likes, followers, and check-ins. Clicking on any of the specific social media tabs will allow you to see your growth in just that one area.

Reputation Shield – Reports

Reputation Shield - Reports Now we can look at the last facet of Reputation Shield’s software—the Reports tab. This feature is what allows Reputation Shield to notify you of important happenings and things you should know, such as your amount of progress in any area or a mention by a follower on your social media account. You can personalize the settings of your notifications by clicking on the option to edit report settings. This allows you to specify which events you want Reputation Shield to notify you about, change the frequency of the emails you’ll receive, and configure multiple emails if you want more than one source to receive updates. You can also view all your past executive reports in the Executive Reports menu. These reports are divided by date, so that you can easily find exactly what you’re looking for.
